I'm looking at getting one of these, and I wanted to know which you think is best, regardless of cost or anything.

Thanks!

I like WinDVD better, for a few reasons.

But you can get PowerDVD for $13 (shipped) from Mwave.com :p

Kinda hard to beat that.

Both are the tops of DVD software, and if it's only $13 for Powerdvd, grab that! I've used both, but have Powerdvd installed on my rig.

used 'em both, like 'em both, but prefer the interface on PowerDVD. You can 'test' PowerDVD here, while you're waiting for your legal copy of the much better version 3.0 to arrive from MWave if you decide to go that route...

From what I have heard PowerDVD is a faster decoder, but is missing some minor features. If speed is not an issue use WinDVD.

If you want some more opinions on the matter you can do a search on it this comes up about once a week or so. I might have even asked before too. I have both installed and tend to use WinDVD because it seems to have slighty clearer picture on my machine.

WinDVD as much better resolution and clarity (at least on my P3/866/512/GeForce2GTS/19" FDTrinitron) but PowerDVD is cheaper and has more features.

If you have a fast machine, just want to watch movies and care about quality then get WinDVD, otherwise get PowerDVD.

Here's a great WinDVD vs PowerDVD thread in the General Hardware forum, make sure to read Noriaki's excellent post comparing the pro's and con's of each software.

Here's another great WinDVD vs PowerDVD thread this time with a thread. Please excuse my numerous "Road Trip DVD" posts in that thread, I had just finished watching the unrated DVD and was absolutely blown away by the shower scene.

PowerDVD is the best IMO. WinDVD is too dark and the sound is too low, and PowerDVD has more cool features.

Another vote for PowerDVD. I've tried both of them and found that PowerDVD was the better of the two.

I have power dvd at the moment, I can't tell the difference between the quality but thats probably because of my monitor and tnt2 video card. They both rock, which is why I went for the cheaper one

Technically, WinDVD is superior in both picture and sound quality so that is what I prefer.

lol, that junk is so far behind WinDVD 2.3 and PowerDVD 3.0 it's not even funny. wait, it is funny. :p

i use both, i'm a software whore:) windvd is better for video/audio quality.. thats why it takes a small cpu hit, not that it matters on current systems(btw video quality is affected by videocard, get an radeon for good stuff, geforce for somewhat less so). windvd also decodes the subwoofer channel :) very good if you have klipsch or something. I only use powerdvd for watching things at high speed while reading subtitles since windvd doesn't display em at multispeed:p
