I had some old wornout blades on my car that really needed to be replaced. The driver's side one didn't wipe well on the right (from drivers seat) side of the blade.

I bought some new wiper blades and the passenger one works great! Unfortunately there is a bow upwards in the middle of the driver's side where the blade doesn't contact the windshield.

If I give a slight bit of pressure on the metal part that holdes the wiper blade it will lay against the windshield but when I release my finger the bow comes back.

I double checked the wiper on Trico's website and it matches what the recommend (It's their Neoform wiper)

Any dieas?

Defective wiper? Try swapping the passenger and driver side wipers to see if that fixes things (assuming you don't have one of those weird cars where the wipers are two different sizes). You might also have a weak or defective spring on the driver's side wiper arm.

Sadly they are two (very) different sizes. I should have mentioned its a 99 Ford Taurus.

How can I check if its a weak/defective spring?

Thanks for the help!

Bend the arm a little?

Did you replace the whole blade, or just the refill part?

This, or you didn't install it correctly.

Oh wow these new forums are cool :p

And I have a similar problem in my car depending on the wiper I use...

I'm not sure how you'd test conveniently for a weak spring, mostly because I have no idea where one would find the correct tension data for those springs.

If you don't mind a bit of a hack job "repair", you can just try bending the wiper arm a bit to put more pressure on the blade. Just bend the arm towards the windshield a little bit. Or you can try to locate a used wiper arm at a local junk yard; they shouldn't cost much and they're easy to replace. They just bolt onto a splined shaft.

So I toyed around with the arm some more and I noticed there was some grime that was preventing the arm from completely lowering back down against the windshield. I cleaned it off and now the blade rests against the windshield properly.

Thanks for the help!
