Windshield haze - removing

I have exterior windshield haze on all my cars like the one this guy has. Except I never use an automatic car wash place. My car wash guys couldn't figure it out also and he isn't using silicone base cleaner as it was suggested at the thread below. the only common thing is we're both in nyc.

I actually had a windshield replaced and it was clear for a few weeks and the haze started to come back.

I recently got a porter cable polisher and just waiting for a warmer day to go out there but is that my last option ?

The buses at NYC Transit Authority had the same problem. Every time that they go through the fuel station, they'd pass through the bus wash before leaving. The guys who sold the soap for the bus wash came down and checked the pH of the wash and found that the system was way off and they adjusted the flow of detergent to the wash to correct the situation. I can't remember what they used to initially clean the windshields (they didn't want to wait another month or so before it *might* have cleared up on its own). But, a friend of mine who works for NYCTA suggested a product called CLR (Calcium Lime Rust http://www.thecarycompany.com/containers/facility/clrfaq.html) to remove a similar hazing on his car which he believed to be caused by the 'hard water' coming from his sprinkler system.

Have you tried a chemical cleaner like CLR?

You can buy window stripper/cleaning stuff at walmart. Wipe on, wipe off type of stuff. This will help a lot in rain as it lets the water bead off your windshield instead of sheeting.

Then change your windshield washer fluid. I find this happens if my fluid is older. I just changed out half a 'tank' of fluid the other week because this was happening.

Don't you use your windshield washers? I use mine practically every day so fluid never gets old before I'm out and adding more.
 
I'd think that a stripped cleaner was in the same category as a chemical cleaner like I suggested. I'm not sure about NuFinish, I remember that more as a wax replacement, but perhaps I'm remembering it wrong (although, it still could be a cleaner and protector).

The comment about the water beading instead of sheeting makes me think of RainX. When I used to use RainX I found it to work well enough that I really didn't need to use my wipers as much or on such a high setting (not sure how to really explain what I mean). I do wonder if something like RainX would clean the haze off or maybe keep it from coming back after cleaning it with something else.

My CTS-V has the same issue as that 4Runner post. I have tried so many different things and the only thing that made a dent was windshield buffing compound from AutoGeek. I need to get a Porter Cable polisher myself with the correct pads. Luckily, the car is just used on the weekends so I see very little rain.
 
A haze/coating on the outside of the windshield sounds like it could just be lime deposits from a hard water area. I know around here, it's a problem with dishes and silverware too unless you have a water softener.
