WindowsXP Updated Promise Ata100 Driver Problems

Just ran Windows update, found new drivers for my Promise Ata 100 Card, after i installed, for some reason all my sounds were crackling and skipping in windows along with mp3s. Did a driver rollback, back to normal. Then i ran windows update again, and noticed under the description, it says "SCSI device". Ahh..don't be tricked!

hmm, no problems here with that update.
the ata100 card is seen as a scsi device by windows so hence the scsi part, me thinks.

I'm using those XP "updated" drivers without a problem. IDE cards are usually referred to as scsi, i.e. when you install an adapter for them, you put in the SCSI and Raid Controllers control panel.

raid is put as scsi by windows and bios on that card at least. mine (dragon+) shows scsi device in bios and 2+0 raid/scsi device in windows. it's the right driver.

I know under the device panel it's considered scsi but for some reason this driver didn't work right...i dunno?

I installed the update & as soon as my computer started to load windows I would get a BSOD-gotta like the rollback feature

You got off easy... I couldn't even boot to Windows after installing the new driver. Now, I've got the onboard "Lite" version, so I suspect that it's not the right driver for me in the first place. Dumb Windows Update... I'll wait for Soyo's release next time.

I installed them and didn't really run into any problems...but WindowsXP sure does seem to do weird things to my machine...I did 2 clean installs and ran into different versions of "weird."

I really think it's a VIA + Promise problem ... anyone running into problems with rev 1.04 A7V133 ??? I know rev 1.05 seems to function properly because my girlfriend has it. Oh well, KT266A will do the trick. 😉 But trying to wait for KT333A 🙁

i got them and it made my comp to stutter, it would freeze my comp for like 5 secs at times, then it would unfreeze.
i reformatted my comp, forgot about the rollback feature. oh well, its pretty easy to reformat these days with a spare drive.
on my last computer with win98, i reformatted so frequently that i remembered the win98 serial by heart
