Is there a "logged" shutdown feature in winXP ? Everytime i restart/shutdown my winXP, my computer exits windows, but freezes during the message "windows is shutting down". I'm not quite sure what is causing this. Any have suggestions at how i could solve my problem? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled the updated audigy drivers i put in before this shutdown problem. That hasnt done anything. CRAAAP !

Problems shutting down are usually driver related. Also flaky ACPI implementations from non-Intel motherboards can cause problems too. What is your motherboard brand and model?

Do you have the latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your system?
Any overclocks?
Also, you might like to try disabling ACPI in the BIOS and reinstalling Windows XP. This will often cure problems on flaky motherboards.

I was thinking it maybe driver related because my system was perfectly fine until i tried to install driver updates for my Audigy.

However, i have removed those drivers and the problem is still there.

Regarding the ACPI, i'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion. But i really dont want to re-install winXP !!!

There's a patch released by Microsoft that specifically addresses shutdown problems with Windows XP. Go get it using Windows Update, or find more info by searching the Knowledge Base.
