I'm not exactly sure why it's doing this. I have 2 folders on my desktop that I use for cdr and video programs, respectively. I have the icon view (under the view menu) as icons. I have everything else, save the control panel, set to details view. After I've closed the folders, for some reason, windows will change those 2 folders on my desktop and control panel back to detail view after a certain random period of time. If I reopen them immediately they will remain as icon view. Under folder options in explorer, I've made sure to check the box "remember each folder's view settings." No viruses or spyware is installed, at least as far as AVG and SpyBot can tell.

Maybe if you browse to these folders though other folders, you lose the settings, but if you go straight to them, the settings will stick? For me "browsing" a folder and "exploring" a folder load up different settings for the Windows Explorer window.

as far as i can tell, windows does do that from time time with all my folders. HOWEVER, at one point, it would NEVER save my settings. i would set a folder to a certain way, and 10 windows later, it would be reset. highly irritating.

check out folder views - keep settings (pete) at if your settings start to never stick. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_f.htm
