Ok fresh install of windowsXP pro, not only that, brand new computer... specs are listed below:

DFI Lanparty nfi4 ut
AMD Athlon Xp 64 3500+
2x512 Mushkin ddr dual channel ram pc3200
500wt psu atx, 24pin
western digital 200gig hd, 7200rpm, 8meg cache..
BFG Vid card, 128meg, pciexpress, geforce..

Anyways...

I had gotten it installed, (although 2 memory dumps in the process of the windows installation, stupid crap)... I just replaced this ram, kingston ram was in there last time, and one of them was not working...

so I just replaced the ram, got windows installed, booted it, up to after getting to the "Windows Boot screen" with the little loading bar (that lasts all of .5 seconds heh), it turns off... just like I had rebooted it myself... then it will come back up, and do it again, sometimes it will actually come on, and load windows all together, but most of the time, it will just shut off, no errors or anything... really ticking me off...

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

have you made sure the bios settings for your memory are correct? maybe its a timing issue.

Just a thought but sounds like mabey a power supply problem. I had the same thing happen about 2 years ago and we replaced the power supply. Only after every thing else and it worked just fine.... (I am no tech this is only past instance that I encountered?)

thats the thing, I had one psu, and I had to replace it, now its this one, I am pretty sure its not the PSU, but if I have to replace that, then I will... -sniffles sadly- Before I go off replacing that for the second time, any other ideas?

Quick things to check: is the 115-volt / 230-volt selector on the PSU's exterior set to the correct voltage for your region, and do you have all three power connectors hooked up to the motherboard?

yes yes yes and yes.

Hehe, I found the problem, well I fixed at any rate..

My mobo supports dual channel... I have 2 sticks of mushkin dual channel ddr pc3200 512meg, anyways, put them in dimm2 and 4, VERY VERY unstable... wth? So, I put them in 1&3, for single... now it boots up, stable as a butterfly (crushes butterfly with mallet), jk, its really stable, no shut downs, or anything of any kind, I installed some demos off the BFG cd, cool dancing fairy woman... also played a 3d game... everything runs fine... I dunno what the deal is, later when I get off of work, I'll slap the ram in dimms 1&3 to see if it will use dual from there... Anyone know maybe its the ram thats not really dual channel? or any ideas?

Maybe the mobo prefers that you use those slots first for termination reasons, or something. If you moved both modules by one slot, you should still have dual-channel going. Check with CPU-Z perhaps.

Anyway, that's great news that it's working properly :) I believe your PSU is a good-quality brand although not one of the more commonly-recognized ones.
