if it recognizes in the bios, you would have to partition and format it
for win me, you have to use fdisk to do it
or can get free gpart, bootable partitioning tool

Start with the basics...dump WinME.

Seriously, what are the jumper settings? Actually, what is the configuration? Both drives on the primary IDE, or both as master on separate channels? And make sure the jumpers are actually set to Master and Slave...I've had cable select be sort of flaky before.

Is it recognized in the BIOS?

Is it over 120 GB? If so, did you read up on using drive manufacturer software to support LBA 48 in ME?

haha my friend is long gone with his ol' workhorse.. he sure was happy to have six times the HD capacity he came over here with... I have indeed recommended saving up for an OS upgrade.. or, better yet, that he put his efforts towards a spanking new machine of his very own :D

Thanks again to those who pitched in.. I was under time contraints and knew I could come back to a familiar place for some timely help!
