Windows98 doesn't load after deleting some files

I have a friend that deleted a whole bunch of files pertaining to her zip drive and some more files that she ?doesn?t remember?. When she turned the computer back on the next time, Windows wouldn?t boot.
She thinks that if she could get to the Recycle Bin and restore the files she would be okay again. Is there a way of using DOS to get to the Recycle Bin and restore all of the files in it or will she have to reload Windows98?
Thanks for any help, Dinah

Has your friend tried booting into safe mode to see if she could restore them? If not, turn the computer on, and hit F8 before windows loads, and select Safe Mode....

Heretik,

I'm trying to contact my friend about trying Safe Mode. When she was telling me about her problem it sounded as though she would get through the Bios boot okay, and then it would hang there. If you can get through the Bios boot, you should be able to enter Safe Mode?

Thank you for your help, Dinah

It depends on what files your friend decided to get rid of. If she gets up to the point where it says "Starting Windows 98", then she can. If not, then the best bet would be to just reinstall windows. You can access the recycle bin from DOS ("C:\RECYCLED&quot😉, however the files won't have the same names and you won't be able to find out where the files were deleted from.

yeah, if she can get through the BIOS, there is a high chance that she can try the safe mode (not 100% though).

but it is just an software (windows) issue, she shouldn't have any problems go thru the BIOS. The problem should be when the computer starts reading the boot record and look for windows.
