Hi, i just got a PC from dell today and have spent half the day trying to net work both the computers but its not happening.

i have tried searching for an answer on this forum but i just get over 20 pages of results.

anyone can help me solve this issue?

i have a pc running windows 7 conected to a router via cable and my macbook connected via wireless

Thanks!

My apartment has a MacBook Pro, a PowerBook, 2 hackintosh desktops that dualboot Windows 7. They are all networked through an Airport Extreme Dual Band all on the same subnet.

What kind of router do you have? Can you ping each computer? Do you have file sharing enabled on both systems? What version of OS X is the MacBook running? What version of 7 is the Dell running?

hey thanks for the speedy pesponse much apprecited 🙂

ok so here is the deal... my itunes on both computers are able to talk to each other... i could transfer music between the computers... so im guessing its able to ping each other?

i have a dlink Dir615... my windows 7 is Home premium and my macbook is running OSX version 10.5.8

im not too sure how to find the version of win7 installed. new to this OS :s

Home Premium is really the only information I need.

Alright, on the MacBook, go to System Preferences, Sharing, and then in the list on the left, select File Sharing. To set up a test, set up a folder to share on the MacBook, and set it up for full access.

I have found in the past that all versions of Windows have had trouble connecting to shares if the credentials are funky. I am at work right now, so it will have to wait until I get home to double check my settings.

If you put your IP address of your mac into windows explorer you'll be able to log in with your credentials and see all of the file/folder structure.

ahhh full access is the key! yes im now able to access my macbook with my PC but it doesnt work the other way around.

im going to try fiddling it around

sry how do u find the mac ip address? im at system preference/network.. theres an ip address above the subnet mask... i used that and it gave me a 'problem loading page'

You can also open Terminal and type 'ifconfig' it will give you A LOT of information, but somewhere in there, is the IP address.
