Hi,
I've been trying to install Windows2000 on my Abit BP6 machine for
a few days now. I've tried almost everything to get it working but
still it didn't quite work. here is what the problem is:
1st attemp: using Windows98's Startup Disk to boot the computer with
CD-Rom Support (for some reason my CD-Rom will Not boot the W2K CD,
I've configure via the SCSI Bios to boot from that CD drive). So from
there I go to i386 directory and run winnt.exe . Then If the HD Drive
I wanna install to is formated in FAT32, W2K setup will report that it
can't load boot loader. If I format that HD to FAT16, it'll load.
Then: After all the files had been copied to the HD, it reboots and
load..etc.. and prompt me whether I wanna convert to NTFS. if I choose
YES I wanna Convert to NTFS, after setup has done converting (2
reboots, one right after I choose yes, convert. Then the other reboot
after the conversion is done.) At the 2nd reboot the system Will Not
go on. it'll post and detect my 2 SCSI cards. but after that it just
stop (at this point I can reboot the machine by Cltr+Alt+Del, but
that's all I can do)
If I choose Not to conver to NTFS at setup.. I'll be Stuck with a 2Gb
Fat16 Partition as my main system drive which kinda suck. If I try to
convert it to FAT32 (using ParitionMagic 5.0) after it had coverted
the HD will not boot.
Also, I've tried to create the 4 floppy disk set for setup. But it
fails too. After it display:
Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configration...
it'll say:
Disk I/O error: Status = 00001000
NTDETECT failed

I've setup Windows 2000 on the same Computer with Same Hardware so
many time before. and it had worked fine. but this time I just have no
clue whatsoever what went wrong. I also tried to scan for Virus with
that built in Anti Virus software inside the W2K CD. it reports
nothing.

Can someone Please Help? Million Thanks!
I need this computer very much...

. I have just got the same exact problem like that yesterday night when installing W2K on a Dell machine for a friends when W98 just about drive her up the walls. I tried almost everything that you've tried and the only thing that seem to work for me is run WINNT32 in WIN98. Now everything is up and running for her. Keeping my fingers crossed. Cuz for a while she thinks that I don't really know shiet.

yup! simlar but works.. I use Winnt32 under WinMe.. now problem is sloved.

I think there must be something wrong with the FAT32 Version WindowsMe and 98Se uses. I don't think W2K is all that compatatble with FAT32... one of my drive (in FAT32) data is all gone... need to use Lost and Found to recover those data.. but what's worst is all the data I store on another parition of that drive (in NTFS) is now Perminently Gone.. something weird happen and screwed up the paritition table of that drive... and I'm forced to reformat that drive..... SIGH..... Everything GONE! (it's a 30Gb Patition...)

Anyway... the system seems to run now.. just data lost..... : (
Low Level Formated it to recover the partition table : (
Data will Never be able to be recovered : (
