windows2000 shutdown problems..help!!

whenever i try to shut down, i just get the screen saying "it is now safe to turn off your computer", but then my power button doesn't respond and i have to press reset. anyone know how to fix it so that it does the auto shutoff again? thanks!

I had the same problem before. I think it's fixed by changing the power management settings both in bios and w2k, but I'm not sure. Maybe you need to enable it in bios?

Yes that's it. Go to the power management and enable apm? or something similar. Can't remember exactly what it's called, but it got it's own tab.

that works in windows98, but there is no checkbox for "enable apm" in win2k..
it was already enabled in the bios..
this is the most annoying problem i've ever had with windows

well, i found a registry fix on the net, but that STILL didn't fix it, THEN my hard drive controller went on the fritz and my whole pc melted down. so basically i dunno

enable your Advance Power Manament (APM) in control panel\power options\APM\check Enable Power Management Support

If your PC has been installed in ACPI mode for Win2K, this supercedes APM, so you won't have the APM tab. ACPI is simply a more advanced version of APM.

Go into your device manager and say "view hidden devices" from one of the menus (don't remember which). Then under hidden devices or something you might find "legacy apm mode" or similar. It might be disabled. Try to enable it.

i have the same problem, but i think my mobo simple doesn't support ACPI, because it gave me troubles during the installation.
