I have to run win2k pro and server, for learning reasons, and I also play Counterstrike alot. With Server CS crashes a good deal, I still play it on there, even though Server isnt made for games, its the only way I can play CS. Pro will be more stable with CS though, But once again 98 OR ME are going to be much more stable. This is just my expierece with win2k and games, im sure other people have had better knowledge of the matter.

I've been playing CS on W2K pro since beta 6.0 with no problems. My system is a dawg compared to yours, so you should have no problem. I have Celeron 466, 256 mb Micron cas2 mem, Hercules TNT2 Ultra, SB live value, and an IBM 7200 rpm 20 gig HDD running at UDMA-33.

The other most important part of my equation is a DSL connection at 768 kps down and 128 kps up.

I have Windows 2000 Pro on two PCs here, a Thunderbird 750 and a Celeron 533 both run Counter-Strike fine. The Celeron is my brothers PC and he uses it on the internet about every day and the last crash, quit, or problem he had with CS was.....oh....never.

Windows 2000 runs all games fine. Esp the new ones that have been tested on it. CS/HL although written for hybird 16/32-bit OS, CS I think runs better and faster on a full 32-bit OS.

Yep, CS works just great on my Win2k SP1 system...just make sure that you have the 1.11 patch installed for Half Life

I have had no problems with Windows 2kPro running any games. It plays my DVD's better and my sound card drivers (SBLIVE) work better than with ME or 98. Not sure why ME was supposedly geared toward multimedia, win2k did it better.

CS runs great on W2k. Just make sure you run it with OGL instead of D3d.

The best site to find about about whether or not a particular game (or Utility or piece of hardware) will work in 2000 is a site called NTCompatible

Go to that site, click on the games link to the right hand side and find the game you're interested in.

It'll detail what issues (if any) users had in running the game.

Hope this helps!
