Windows Zero Configuration problem ARGH!

Bought a USB 802.11 adapter today (Parkervision) when I installed the software for it and tried to run it I got a WZC was enable and needed to be shut off error. So I open up services.msc and it's not there, so I go to disable where windows auto configs a wireless network. When I go to the wireless network list, it says windows cannot configure this wireless connection. I assumed the software I installed for the adapter was causing this, so I uninstalled, rebooted. and it still says windows can't configure. The Parkervision software is still saying WCZ is enable, and services.msc isn't listing it as a process at all.

it pointed me to windows tech article 871122 which was absolutly zero help. Maybe it's sp2, but I don't remember the wireless interface looking like this in regular XP.

what do I need to do?

thanks
