Last week I bought a new monitor--ViewSonic G225fb. I'm using it in conjunction with an Albatron PCX5300 PCI Express video card. Initially, I had no problems maintaining a given resolution during power-up or reboots, but after installing the ViewSonic driver (via CD), XPpro will not hold the resolution I set, which is well within the capabilities of both the video card and monitor.
The monitor has a maximum resolution (claimed on their website) of 2048x1536@80Hz, but I am running it at 1600x1200@75Hz. This is the same that I ran a previous monitor at (ViewSonic PS790) before it died after 5.5 years of good service. Is the c.2001 generic M$ driver really all that much better than the manufacturer's driver? Sounds strange, but then we are talking about human-made things. 🙂
EDIT: I forgot to mention what resolution it comes up in after rebooting or morning power-on: XGA@60Hz.
