Windows XP, WTH is text mode setup??

I am trying to install XP Pro on an older machine and when it gets to the part where Windows is supposed to start an error screen appears. It reports that the BIOS in the system is not fully ACPI compliant and to upgrade it, the problem is there is no BIOS that will upgrade this feature for the rvision of the mobo I have. THe message also says I can disable ACPI mode during "text mode setup" by pressing the F7 key when prompted to install storage drivers. This is all well and good but I don't know what the heck "text mode setup " is.

If anyone can help here I would really appreciate it because I am completely frustrated now.

Boot up from a Windows boot disk w/ CD-ROM drivers.

Run SmartDrive to cache CD-ROM transfers (otherwise it'll take MANY hours to copy the files to hard disk).

Run D:\i386\winnt32.exe where D: is the CD-ROM drive.

If my memory is wrong on the setup file, try D:\i386\winnt.exe

I don't recall if this method requires a pre-formatted C: filesystem or not.

When you first start the XP install, you are in 'text' mode - you know, blue and white screen, no graphics. When you get to the point where it says at the bottom "Press F6 to install additional storage drivers", just hit F7. Change your system type from ACPI compliant to Standard Computer in the menu that comes up.

and don't do what manly said, that wont help U and takes longer.
