Windows XP won't turn power off on shutdown?

I just installed windows xp. Normally in windows 98 when you go to shut down it will turn the computer off automatically. Well XP says "it is now safe to shut down you computer" just like win 95 use to. But then when I push the power button nothing happens. I either have to hold the power button in or hit reset and then shut it off when the dos screen is displayed. There is nothing in the bios on this that I can find. Does anyone know how I can get this thing to shut down?

Go to ControlPanel/PowerOptions/APM/ and Turn on APM, that should work.

Thanks, I won't be able to try this until I get home at about 6:00 but I will let you know if it fixes the pboblem.
