So I got a new mobo, MSI K8MM-V, hooked my 120gb sata seagate up to it. The drive already has xp on it but it was from a different rig. So I went to reformat and windows pro install doesn't recognize the hd, says it doesn't exist. I know the drive is working and the mobo recognizes it because it has some boot screen dealing with raid and it has my seagate listed there, so it does recogize it. Also the drive will boot up to the windows loading screen then it restarts.

Anyone have any clue want it's doing or a way to fix it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you need to install the driver for it? Like F6 when starting the install.

That's my only guess what it could be, I just finished getting them from seagate. So we'll see what happens.

You need drivers from VIA (the maker of the SATAn controller), not Seagate. Good luck... with VIA + SATA, people often need it :p

any way to install these drivers without using a floppy? i have the raid controller floppy disk that came with my mobo, but floppy drives are sorta a thing of the past.

Humorously ironic given you could really use one for your new setup eh? ;) You could slipstream them right in to XP along with any other drivers and goodies you'd like, or put the drive in another system and install the drivers in windows, or borrow a friend or neighbors FDD for a few minutes.
