Windows XP won't finish install! Help!

I can't figure out what is wrong.

XP just stops installing at "Installing Windows" with 9 minutes remaining. It looks like it's still installing (green dots are still moving and tips are still changing) but nothing is happening.

Could it be my XP disc or maybe my HDD? Should I try another XP disc?

Does anyone have any suggestions? What else should I try?

Thanks,

How long did you wait?

You may try stripping the system down to the bare essentials then installing ( without activating ) then reinstall everything you removed then activate.

I waited for over an hour the first time and it just sat there.

I just tried installing it with a different XP disc and it stopped at 9 minutes remaing again.

The only thing I've changed since the last time I installed XP on this machine is I updated the BIOS.

Could it be the hard drive? Is there anything I can do to the HDD or any way I can check to make sure it's ok? Also, could it be the CD drive having problems reading the disc? Should I try and swap Cd drives?

The only extra hardware installed on the mobo is a ATI TV turner card. I can try pulling that.

That should be plenty of time.

This could be an issue... I would only downgrade the BIOS as a last resort though.

It could be either. You could check the HDD with the mfg check utility. You could also try changing the CD Drive, but if it was messing up it seems it would happen long before you got down to 9 minutes.

This could also be causing issues finishing up... ? I'd pull it until I get the OS installed. I would do this first, as it and the BIOS are the only things that were changed.

Well, it was either the ethernet cable being plugged in or the ATI TV tuner card. I unplugged the cable and removed the card and XP installed without any problems.

Thanks for the help guys!

The odds much favor the tuner card being the source of your problem.
