Windows XP will NOT let me delete/rename files

Folks, this is driving me crazy. I have searched both Microsoft Knowledge base articles, and the anandtech forums for a guiding light, but I cannot solve this one.

I have a folder where I store large files (divx movies, mp3's, etc.) and FOR THE LIFE OF ME, Windows will NOT let me delete or rename ANY of these files! I have check and RE-checked file permissions in the security tag, and they are IDENTICAL to permissions for other files and folders, which I have NO trouble with. It is quite literally contained to ONLY this one folder. This is absolutely ridiculous. I assure you I am logged on as an administator.

I am using Windows XP Pro SP1.

Can someone PLEASE help me!

what happens if you try to cut and paste the file(s) into another directory?

I assume you've done the "reset permission on child objects...blah blah" thingy?

I can actually cut and paste these files into a different directory, but within the new directory those files are still untouchable.

What exactly is the reset option you mentioned?

I am wondering if this has something to do with the fact that these large movies files are reported as the most fragmented on my computer. Although I don't really see why this should prevent me from deleting them...

AYE this is annoying.

I had this problem a long time ago.

I'm searching all over the place, but can't find it.

If I remember correctly, it's something like "Log on as Admin., go to Control Panel, Go to Folder Options (Under Category View), and Disable/Enable Simple File Sharing" or something like that.

I don't remember exactly, but go there, and play around with Simple File Sharing or File Sharing there. (I'm not on an XP machine right now, so can't talk you through it exactly.)

I hope this at least leads you in the right direction.
