Hi gang,

I've tried many times to get Windows XP Professional (I have the volume licensed version w/no WPA, as I use my machine for work) on my system, but failed miserably. Whether I boot from the XP CD, or try installing from the Windows Me (yes, I know it's lousy, that's why I'm trying to get rid of it) GUI, it stalls at the "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" text message (after the first reboot for the GUI, or right at boot time for the CD). I've tried removing almost everything but the graphics card, I've tried using an Adaptec 2940UW instead of my 2930U2, I've tried two graphics cards (Geforce2 Pro, and then my current GF3 TI 200), I've used an AMD Duron 1GHz CPU and now the current Athlon XP 1600+, this hasn't changed anything. I've tried lowering RAM timings, turning off AGP 4x, turning off system and video BIOS shadowing, and I'm not using the RAID on my mainboard, so I know that isn't it either. About the only thing that I haven't swapped out (because I haven't a replacement) is my Abit KG-7 RAID mainboard, which has the latest BIOS, and has run absolutely perfect and stable under the Windows Me operating system, with two AMD Durons, and the Athlon XP. This is getting really frustrating, the only thing I can think of that might be left is an ACPI issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. The system doesn't really lock up when this happens, I can hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and reboot, or hit NumLock or CapsLock on the keyboard and have it light up...but it will stay on that text screen for hours without doing anything at all.

could be the CD (!) either the drive or the actual disc. Does it install OK on other machines? try swapping out CD-ROM drives.

Unfortunetely I ran into the same problem upgrading from Win98 to XP with my Geforce3 Ti-500. The only solution that I was able to find, was to remove the video card and switch it with my friends (3d labs oxygen) which seemed to be compatible with XP, and then it was able to install ok. Once it is installed, you can replace your origional video card, but drivers might still be tricky, as i have yet to figure out how to install mine completely, but the graphics seem to work ok for now

Lone Wolf I had a similar problem installing XP w/ my Ti-500. You may think this is foolish but I was able to weasle around this by simply telling the install I had third party raid drivers to install then escaped before installing them. (even though I am not running a raid setup)The next thing I knew I was up and running. Good Luck with your problems!

i haven't figured out a way to install winXP with the ti-500 installed, but if you can install XP with another video card, you can put the Geforce3 back in and install the drivers from the visiontek website. Download the 15.70 Detonator 3 drivers for XP, and the WDM 1.08 drivers for XP. Install the 15.70 drivers, then reboot, and install the 1.08 drivers, and that should render your card acceptable to XP. It might take a couple tries to get it, but this seemed to work for me.
