Windows XP will not dial up automatically...

Hi

My girlfrind has an internet connection that requires her to establish a pppoe connection before the internet can be accessed. She sometimes uses standard dhcp lan connections that don't require a pppoe connection so therefore I've set the Control Panel->Internet connections->Connections dialog box (it's WinXP by the way), to dial up the pppoe conn. only when no internet connection is present (she has a danish copy of WinXP, and I can't remember the exact phrase in english). This has worked perfectly until now. As you can probably guess, it doesn't work any more. If I set WinXP to dial up always, it works like it used to.
Why do you think this happens, and how do I solve it?

Regards
Andreas

P.S. I might add that the PC is an IBM R50 laptop running all the IBM processor cycle eating "bells and whistles", as I haven't pulled myself together to disable the unnecessary stuff yet. Not that it should do any difference as far as I know. By the way, if you know a link to a good guide about which stuff to disable (and where/how to do it) it will be appreciated.
