Windows XP: Which HAL for which processor?

I have a base image of windows XP pro. Based on recommendations, I built this image on an ACPI PC.

My question is: is there a list of which processors should be ran with this HAL and which should have the ACPI Uniprocessor HAL installed? I'm not sure how much of a difference there is between these 2 HALs. I did drop the image on a machine which was listed as ACPI Uniprocessor and it ran just fine without the HAL change. Would this really make a difference?

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately that really doesn't help me much.
I need to know, for example, that an Athlon XP 1200 runs with ACPI PC and not ACPI Uni.

I don't think so. The only real time you'd need to change HAL (if Windows didn't do it itself) would be for a non-ACPI compliant system, or an SMP configuration. My machine runs an ACPI Uniprocessor HAL, which was the default install option, and I don't see any reason to change it

I'd stick with what you've got, TBH.

The problem is this:
If I drop an ACPI Uniprocessor image on a machine that is only ACPI PC, it won't boot into Windows. However, if I drop an ACPI PC image on a machine that normally runs as ACPI Uniprocessor, it will work and boot into windows. If I know for a fact the machine normally runs the ACPI Uni HAL, then I'll swap the hal.dll files while booted up in recovery console.

Now, I need to know which processors will run as ACPI Uni. That's my problem.
Or...how much of a difference is there between the two? Can I just leave the machine as ACPI PC without any issues?

I should think that ACPI PC would be the easiest option
I don't have any info on the differences, but you should be fine with just sticking to ACPI PC.

Remember... P4 with Hyper-Threading uses the Multiprocessor HAL.
