Windows XP, what version are you using?

I'm curious what people are using, home or pro.

I haven't bought it yet, I'm debating between home and pro.

I'm using 2000, that's why I'm curious what XP version people are using. I'm not sure if the extra features of pro justify the $100 price difference for me, but I still might want the SMP capability and the remote desktop feature in the future.

I'd add a poll if I had a clue how to add one to an already created thread. You would think I would know that as long as I've been here, huh? 🙂

trmiv If you are already running 2000, XP is not that much of an "upgrade". Definately not worth the money IMHO.

Are Home and Pro both based on windows 2000, or did they rewrite everything? The reason I ask is because I want to know if Pro is to Home as 2000 is to ME. If that's the case, I think the answer is obvious from a stability standpoint. However, if Home and Pro are equally robust and stable, there's little reason for the average user to purchase Pro over Home.

Just bought and installed XP Pro a couple of hours ago.

Yup, they're based on the 2K kernel, not the 9x kernel.

i'm running home. i use a laptop (no dual cpus here 😉 ) and i'm the only one who uses it, so i don't need the extra admin/security stuff. it's interesting, because it really does seem to use the same kernel as pro (it's even got services under admin tools ala NT). seems to be stable enough so far.

so far so good (finger crossed and yes, i'm knocking on wood right now hehe).

I'm using XP Pro. Had it for about 3 weeks now, I bought the OEM version. It's growing on me more every day. 🙂
