Windows XP Upgrade on clean HD?

I own a copy of 98SE and would like to upgrade to XP Pro. Can I install the XP Pro upgrade on a newly formatted HD and just insert my 98 CD when prompted, or does the XP upgrade actually have to be installed over an existing installation of windows.

Yes you can do that.

I meant to say you don't have to install 98 first. Just have it handy when it prompts you.
