I upgraded from W98 to XP and everything is OK except I lost my audio. The C-Media AC97 Audio XP driver installed and it shows up in the hardware devices as working properly. Volume is on, speakers are plugged in and turned on, all the associated software functions correctly. All I get is silence when I play any audio. DirectX 8 diagnostic says everything is working, however when I play a test I get this message: "DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)". That is the only indication of a problem.
I know the onboard sound is not that great but I would like to figure out how to get it back before I dish out for a SB Audigy.

I have XP Pro installed with the c-media onboard sound. Have you gone to the windows update page on the net? Let it scan your system and see it it finds an update for the c-media drivers. It did for me and it worked.

Well tbalon I had not tried that. I took your advice and it worked for me too!!!! I am listening to Ozzy right now! Thanks for the tip - I thought the Elite mainboard site would have the latest driver but obviously Microsoft had what I needed.

A thousand thanks tbalon - may the gods always be with you.
