Link.
Anyone tried this? Any problems?
If I create a slipstream SP1, and want to create the chain of hotfixes, how do I know which hotfixes I need, that weren't already included in SP1?

I use Qchain a decent amount at work. It's especially nice for server's
The best way to figure out what hotfixes you need is to use Hfnetchk. It's an MS tool and is all you need.

What I was referring to was creating a general hotfix file with all the hotfixes after SP1, which I can put to CD and then I'll be able to install using an XP CD streamlined with SP1, then use the other CD with QChain to install hotfixes that came out after SP1 (up to the date that the QChain CD was created of course).
That app is for checking a certain machine, and I don't have a spare install of XP, with SP1 and no other hotfixes, to use the tool on.

I guess if I knew the date of the last update/hotfix that SP1 included, I could look on windows updates for any after that date?

I guess you'll have to improvise then. I'm guilty of assuming most questions here are work related, but this seems to be a home project. Good luck.

slipstream sp1, install OS, go to windows update, download the hotfixes (you can download them instead of just running it automatically, options on there somewhere), qchain them up.

I've never tried downloading them. So it'll still scan and tell you which ones you need and then let you download without doing the auto install? I've never figured out how.

I've looked there before and couldnt find it. I have seen Update Catalog, but it just lists all updates for XP (what is XP RTM?), and doesn't use the scan to show only the ones you haven't installed.

Also, someone on here once said they thought their system was slower after installing XP w/ SP1 slipstream, vs. installing separately. This isn't a known problem is it?

well i guess i was wrong about that but dude, when you scan what you need, write it down on paper, then go to catalog and download what you need. rtm don't know, just get the updates you need.

slipstream shoudn't lower performance, i never heard of this before.

If you go to catalog and select XP SP1 it should only list the one's since SP1. Download all of the criticals along with any of the recomended one's that you want. I did this a few month's ago for XP and 2K both and burned them to disk. You can check the download history after that to determine which you need to add in the future.
