At work today, windows xp automatic updates popped up and gave me 30 mins before it would shutdown because of updates. I wasn't the only one, other people at work had this happened too. I was just wondering if anyone had any news on why they forces the update. I had a lot of stuff open and rebooting was a hassle.

Also, on my home computer, it updated to the new windows update program. So now it's asking me to revalidate my windows xp OS. Something along the terms "genuine" windows xp. Is going through with this process safe? What is the process of this?

Thanks

This is because your company's IT department is using WSUS to push updates to your computer. Your IT department set it to require a reboot in 30 min, so if you don't like it, you'll have to talk to your IT department.

yes, this is safe, assuming you have a legitimate copy of Windows XP (not pirated or warez). Keep clicking "ok" or "continue" when it asks. Even if you have a pirated copy, it is safe, but you won't get updates.
