Windows XP Tweak needed

So, Ive just installed some non-critical Updates for windows XP, before I did that I started a long encoding task (almost a day running so far with a e6600 W00t!). Anyways, automatic update so kindly reminds me every 30 seconds that "Hey, you need to restart for updates to take place).

I feel I'm tech savy enough to not get into any big trouble before I can restart, but I hate these dang popups. Is there any way to kill them permanently?

(Im encoding 3 sessions, 9 dvds, of MASH for those wondering 😀)

If it's WinXP Professional Edition, then yes you can. Lemme see, where'd they put that...

Start > Run > gpedit.msc

Drill down to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update. Find the "Stop driving me crazy!" setting, which is cleverly disguised as "Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations," and set it to Enabled, then give it a long interval.

Close Group Policy Editor and then run gpupdate in your command-line box.

Ok, the easiest way (for now) was to just kill the Windows update service 😀. I tried a registry value I found on the internet that should set the re prompt up to come back every 24 hours (I can live with that), ill see if it works later, for now this works well enough.
