Windows XP task bar is missing?

Hello,

I booted into my laptop today, one:

Dell Inspiron 600m
1.3 GHz
1.25 Gb ram
Windows XP Pro w/ SP2

and my taskbar is missing! I went into safe mode and everything looked normal, so I ran a virus scan, ad aware, spybot S&D, Spyware blaster update, etc. Nothing turned up out of the ordinary, and everything seemed fine. I even went to Panda's website for the latest online scan... again my system is clean.

I found this article at Microsoft Help and Support Taskbar is Missing when you log on to Windows and then this one How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP

Well that second article gave me an idea. I followed the steps using MSconfig, and it seems that the culprit is the "Load System Services". When I check that and reboot, my taskbar goes missing.

What is my solution? Is there something at startup that is goofing up Windows or has something important gone corrupt in my account (which is admin btw).

Thank you

Hit Control-Alt-Delete and IF the system security screen comes up, start up task manager and look for processes - see if explorer.exe is loaded. If not, click File->Run (New task) and type in explorer.exe and hit enter. See if the taskbar shows up. If it does, then somehow, some way, explorer is not being run on startup.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will try those.

I should mention that when I do the selective start-up option in msconfig, and have the "Load System Services" unchecked I get my taskbar back, but not everything is loaded up in the task tray. Oh, and my Guest account is working properly with the taskbar showing up.

ktwebb - I end up with a little search box in the middle of the screen... not sure what that is from though.

SunnyD - I saw explorer.exe so I ended the process, and then clicked File->Run(New task) and typed in explorer.exe and hit enter.

I saw the taskbar for a moment, and then it dissapeared, and where it was on my screen the background wallpaper has a funny squiggle.

Oh, after playing with some things, it looks as though Objectdock was the culprit. It's a program that creates a dock for my shortcuts on my desktop and loads at startup.
