Windows XP Surround Sound problem

The most annoying problems in the world are the ones whose description begins, "It used to work."

So...

It used to work. I'm not sure exactly what happened in between "then" and "now," but I cannot get my 5.1 speakers working on my XP machine. I've used my Audigy Gamer before to use the 5.1 speaker setup. The problem now is that it can basically only send sound out through the front channels. Now that it's not working, I've also tried the onboard soundchip (nForce chipset), which supports 5.1, and it does not work either.

I thought it might be a physical problem with the speaker system itself. But I can plug the front speaker channel into either the center/subwoofer or the rear jack on the speaker system as well and it will come through those channels just fine.

Has anyone had ANY problem like this before or know of a problem like this? I'd greatly appreciate any help...2 channels just doesn't cut it anymore. :D Need anymore info and I'll gladly reply. Thanks in advance!

GoTo: start - settings - control panel

Click on sound and audio devices.
down the botom in the speaker settings click advanced and make sure you have selected 5.1 surround sound speakers. See if that works. And make sure u have the latest XP drivers.

Yes, I've done that many times....too many times really. Hoping maybe XP would learn what I was wanting it to fix and say, "Ohhh, THAT'S what you want me to do." But it has been to no avail. XP doesn't have the AI that I'd hoped it had.

Any other suggestions?

Well my 5.1 works fantasic on XP very easy to use. I plugged my 3 3.5 RCA plugs into my 5.1 sound card and did what i wrote in my last post and hasen't failed since. Do u have more than one plugged in your sound card or just the black one? But if your had it working before you'l know what your doing. So i hnestly dont know maybe its the drivers?

Go to creatives site and download the new drivers. Then try to do that. It should work, (better word HOPEFULLY it will work).
