Windows XP SP2

Hello,

I was wondering if it was normal that I have to enable and disable the Windows XP Firewall Service every time I reboot my system? If I don't do that, I get the error "The list of servers for this workgroup is currently not available" when I want to browse the computers on my LAN.

I am using SyGate Personal Firewall 5.5. Yes I know, it's getting old...

Well Majesty,

You may have come to the right place--because I am exactly in your boat---first turn the sp2 firewall off---go to control panel---go to security center---find sp2 firewall recommend tab---click recommend tab--and check I have a firewall I will monitor myself---and then OK. Once in a blue moon the sp2 firewall will leap up to save the day-and you will have to reclunk it on the head---but at least it won't bother you very often.

Generally speaking if you're running a 3rd party software firewall you should be disabling XP's built-in one (just like Lemon Law said). Otherwise dealing with the multiple policies can quickly become confusing (assuming it works at all, which it doesn't sound like for you).

It is already disabled. I disable a lot of useless services (Security Center, for instance).

My problem is not if it is enabled or disabled with a 3rd party software. It is that when I reboot my computer, if I want to browse the computers in my LAN, I get the error "The list of servers for this workgroup is currently not available". To "fix" that, I have to start and immediately stop the Firewall/ICS service, which is annoying.

Maybe I am confused---but you asked how to do it---which is to go to recommend tab in the security center---but if your security services are disabled in bootup proseidures, you can't get to the recommend tab---sort of a catch 22---but maybe the security center you are disabling does have a use after all.

Making your arguement equivalent to saying I don't need the brakes on a car most of the time---so I'll just remove that brake pedal that gets in the way of my feet.

In short, reenable the security center and be done with the sp2 firewall popping up at every boot.
