Hey Guys...

Yes, I couldn't wait until all the bugs were worked out. Now that is out of the way, I build a rig from scrach with the following main components:

AMD64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Mobo (nforce3 ultra)
2 sticks of Crucial Ballistics (PC4000) - 1 GB total
x800 XT/PE

Now, I first installed XP SP1a with no issues. I am familiar with Stop messages, and it was running sweet. I decided to go for the gusto and download XP SP2. Once it installed, everything seemed normal. No major issues, but when I go to shut down, I get the dreaded BSOD, with the following stop message:

STOP: 0x0000007F, 0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000

Now, again, everything was beloved patriot dory with XP SP1a. I am 99.44% sure that this stop message is related to some type of conflict that XPSP2 has with some of my apps, hardware, etc.

For reference, my hardware is fine. Run Memtest on sticks, no worries. Temps are all square. Nothing overclocked.

So, before I pull the plug on XPSP2, I wanted to see what you guys think. Let me know.

Those are often hardware related, but since you've tested the next most likley culprits:

Stop 0x7F messages can occur after installing incompatible applications, drivers, or system services. Contact the software manufacturer about possible Windows XP specific updates. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools.

Any of those ring a bell, perhaps you can check for updates for those apps for SP2 compatibility?

Confirm that the machine is not overclocked at all. (You have...but it never hurts to double check...)

Please test and confirm that this happens in Safe Mode too. If not, it's a problem with software on your machine, so no need to do these next steps.

If it still happens - do you have any third party power management utilities on that machine?
If so disable them; if not, send me the MPS Reports and CAB file (read my .sig's URL for details) *after* you have updated all drivers & BIOS on the motherboard *and* reproduced the problem. I only need the memory dump files and MPS Reports .cab file created *after* you've updated all your drivers/BIOS *and* reproduced the problem.

Good luck!
