Windows XP Shared Network

Current we have a small business. We have a xp server with a shared folder and that is basically our server. The problem is the computer has win xp home and it can only have max connections of 5. We sometimes have 6 or 7 people sharing the network which is a problem. We are thinking of either upgrading to xp profession which we can have 10, or just buying a new computer with windows 7. Why? Because all of our computers have windows 7 at the moment. So my question is that Im not sure what the difference between windows 7 and xp in terms of networking. Any suggestions of what we should do at our office? Thanks!

Will windows home server let me enable a password system, so only certain people have access to certain folders on the network. Thanks.
