I'm writing from my computer at work. My computer at home started a continual reboot yesterday while my wife was online, getting ready to play the sims.

It started with an error that read:

generic host process for win32 services

It then rebooted if we reported or did not report the error. I told my wife to ignore the error and continue working. At that point the error message changed and the computer coninually reboots after turning on for about 60 seconds:

New error is: dcom services process lounge service terminated unexpectedly

The only time I don't get this error is when I boot into safe mode without networking (safe mode with networking the same error occurs).

In safe mode I ran a virus scan and nothing comes up (NAV). I saw that there was an issues on MS website for service pack 2 but, I'm using service pack 3. MS Link

Should I reinstall windows and lose all my settings?? What should I do? Thank you!

Update: in safe mode CPU utilitzation is at 100% for services.exe & svchkhost.exe

Could be a virus that NAV isn't picking up.

Are you able to do a System Restore?

Another suggestion is to attempt to repair your windows installation. You can do this by booting into the Windows CD and selecting 'Repair the current installation of windows' or something similar. It's not in the "Recovery Console" that you first get prompted with, it's when you go through to install Windows normally and it "attempts to detect current installations of windows. This will go through and restore all your Windows files back to their original state.

I'll run home and try this soon and update you on the status. Thank you!

You can also uninstall the service pack. It saves every file it replaces.
