Windows XP Service Pack 2 RC1 is now available for download

not much is going to change between now and when it is released (June); mostly just bug-fixes, etc.

The biggest reason for such a long RC period is so software developers can ensure their applications will work correctly under SP2 (there are a number that will not).

running sp2 here, i dont like it, allot of bloat and nag ware built in, plus adshield does not work, i think im gonna format and go back to sp1

Doubt if I'll ever jump on that bandwagon... considering I have two quality systems here running Win XP Pro & Home. I used them to a high degree, much of it for business purposes. Store personal photos.... let's just say they are loaded. Twitched, tweaked, secured and backed up.
Do I really care to have MS hose all my hard work to get everything 'just so'... I think not.

So who wants to cliffnotes that 150page document 😛
  • Lots of fixes
  • Pop-up blocker that will be circumvented by seedy advertisers within days of release
  • New build numbers
  • Possible broken programs
  • Mo4r holes to plug
  • Includes that goddamn annoying WISPTIS
That aside... I didn't have any problems worth remembering with several builds of the SP1, so I've slipstreamed this one already 😀 I assume it hasn't a timebomb though...

If you install these betas, you have to uninstall them before putting the final version on.
Sounds like a headache to me. Ill wait

They must've changed it then because I had no problem upgrading through the different builds of SP1.

With the previous betas of SP2 you had to uninstall/reinstall in order to "update" to the next one. My guess is it will be the same with the RC.

I havent gotten an official answer so it would be my guess that the developers at Microsoft dont know yet either.
