hey, recently got windows xp. when i capture avi files. as soon as i click on it in windows explorer, the hard drive goes nuts like its scanning the entire file (2-3gigs). i let it go and it takes minutes until it stops. then if i click on file again, hardrive activity starts up again. anyone experience this? anyone know how to stop. only solution i've found is to use dos and rename file to .mpg extension. problem is i can't copy files off cd because can't rename.

i've tried View Classic Folders
i also tried disabling preview mode in windows movie maker but no go.
it happens when i just highlight the avi file in windows explorer. i haven't opened it yet

win xp 2600 with ntfs
zoom player

Hmm some programs associated with certain extentions give extra info in the properties.
Like word &.doc (author, summary etc) maybe this is being done for the avi.

I have this EXACT same problem and have posted it twice with no resolution

It only occurs when i have INCOMPLETE divx files and I try to check properties for them.. It seems windows is trying to scan the file to find out what it is or something.. My memory shoots up until all 380megs of my memory is used then after about 2minutes properties show and everything goes to normal.. Its only this bad if its a BIG incomplete divx like 600mb or so.. No fix for it yet as far as i can tell.. Plus I have problems deleting these files(says files already in use) Sometimes i have to use Norton 2002 to "wipe" them
