Could anybody tell me how to install the SATA driver (serial ATA) which came with my motherboard Gigabyte 8SQ800 Ultra, in Dos mode or from within Windows XP?. So that I will be able to use automated system recovery (ASR), and or to copy an image backed up by Norton Ghost on an IDE HDD to a Serial ATA HDD
I have backed up my Serial ATA HDD with Windows XP?s own backup software which is in system tools; I have made an automated system recovery disk too.
I initiated a simulated system failure, by closing down and re-booting the computer with the Windows XP installation disk in the CD drive. Then I pressed a key to start loading Windows XP from the said CD drive and followed the prompts for an automated system recovery by the pressing of the F2 key. Then WinXP said that it did not see any HDD, this is because the Sata drivers are needed at this stage to en able the computer to see The HDD, thus allowing me to use F2 key for the ASR procedure or to install WinXP,
Windows XP does need these drivers but I have to press F6 and have the SATA driver on a floppy ready to put in the drive A: prior to installing Windows XP, then after pressing the F6 key, XP ask if I want to load third party software and to put the floppy in drive A: and to press the S key, after pressing the S key the file si3112.inf is high lighted in a box the file is read directly from the A: drive, and by pressing the Enter key, the computer loads the SATA driver enabling the computer now to see the SATA HDD, but the SATA software will ONLY load from drive A:, after installation of the said driver the option come up to either Press S again to load more third party software or to Press Enter to continue to Install Windows XP on my SATA HDD, but does not allow me to go back to press F2 Key for the ASR procedure. When I tried to use The SATA driver in DOS mode, the computer said this driver can only be used from within Windows? but if I press F2 From within Windows XP installation to enable me to use The ASR program, it says again that it can?t see the HDD, Windows XP will not allow for its self to load this third party software (SATA driver) and bypasses the situation to load this driver and ask to press F3 key to restart
I have also backed up Windows XP from a Maxtor 6Y120L0 IDE HDD with THE software: - Norton Ghost. when I started the recovery to the Sata HDD, it copies across fine, the problem starts when I re-boot the system, It does not see a Sata HDD installed, I need the sata driver which I have on floppy, but there is no interface which will allow me to install this software. What I want to find out is how to do this, because I might get a system failure in the future.
I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO LOAD THIS DRIVER IN BEFORE WINDOWS XP AND AFTER HOW TO LOAD WINDOWS XP WITHOUT SHUTTING DOWN?
?
List of files on the floppy: - gbttk.dll setup.exe si3112.mpd sisupp.vxd (virtual device driver) txtsetup.oem drvinst.exe readme.txt si3112.inf si3112.sys silsupp.cpl(control panel extension)
I can e-mail any body the readme .txt file if needed
I got this file from the Internet

Question 3:
How do I install Windows 2000/XP onto a SATA drive?
Answer 3:
A serial ATA controller is not automatically recognised during Windows 2000/XP installation. You will have to install drivers for the SATA controller to be able to install Windows 2000/XP onto a SATA drive.
The drivers for your SATA controller need to be available on a floppy disk otherwise you won't be able to install them during the operating system installation process. Should you only have a CD, copy the driver files onto a floppy before attempting to install Windows 2000/XP.
During the boot process you will be prompted to press F6 to install additional controller drivers, at this point you insert the floppy and follow the onscreen instructions.
After the drives have been installed you can continue with the Windows installation. :- ( this Works Fine)
Then Windows XP goes on to ask for the floppy disk to enable it to load third party software (Sata Driver
