Windows XP running from disc?

I have a vista laptop and my lcdtv doesn't support vista.

Is there a way to run windows xp from the disc instead of installing it ?

No but you can install XP and have your laptop be able to boot from either OS.

The laptop has 1 partition and I don't want to reformat or install xp on the same partition.

winpe is a stripped down version of xp/vista you can run from CD or Flash drive. Doesn't come with an explorer shell or IE but it's possible to get the running on it. I don't think it would do what you want.
