Windows XP restart problems.......erg..

Hello everyone!

I have a problem and I'm wondering if anyone can help me. Thanks!

I installed Windows XP Professional (clean install) and it cannot restart. It'll go through all the shut down, saving settings procedure, but it just won't shut off. The monitor will go blank, but the computer is still on.

I've installed Windows XP on several computer before and nothing like this has ever happened. I'm running a Gigabyte GA-7DX rev 2.2 motherboard, Athlon 1.2ghz 200FSB, ATI Xpert 2000 video card.

I've already installed the latest critical updates from microsoft and the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers. I also downloaded the latest ATI video drivers too.

If you have any help with this, please let me know. Thank you very much!

On Win98 my spare computer would automatically shut off.
With WinXP on it, I have to hold the power button in for about 4 seconds.
Then it shuts off.
🙁

Well, I have no problems shutting it off. I can hold down the power button like you said and it'll shut off. It's just that everytime I need to restart: changing bios, after installation of new software, etc, it always prompts me to restart. The monitor will go blank, but the computer is still on.

Does this have something to do with ACPI?

Go to Device Mangler and check to see if you have "NT APM/Legacy Support" installed correctly.
In D. Mangler you will have to VIEW > SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES to see it.
