Windows XP repair process scared the Sh%@ out of me...

I was fixing a machine this morning and had to run a XP repair on an install. So I figured it would be very similar to 2000 and it would just read my files and place a few new ones. Nope.... I pressed "r" for it to repair and it read my files and wrote a few... then rebooted and did what looked like the whole windows setup again. It scared the crap out of me because I didn't know if it formatted the drive or what for about 30minutes.

I can see how XP's repair command is more thorough, but damn, at least tell the user that they are going to be sitting there for 40 minutes and it is going to run the whole windows reinstall process again.

Scared the Sh%# out of me!

Yea, thats actually what I use when upgrading mobo's w/o reinstalling. Thats the onyl repair option in XP (besides ASR).

I literally just finished doing the same thing( my reaction was the same): however I have a Ghost back up of the C: partition, so I figured I wasn't totally fubarred 🙂
