windows xp repair problems

To start out I've got a home built system with windows xp professional. I have 3 hardrives the one with windows xp pro on it is a partitioned sata drive.

My windows has been frequently freezing were the taskbar locks up but appications run for a few min before complete lock up. I did chkdsk scan and it keeps saying I have 1 error, but it is fixed. Though it says it finds an error again if I run again. So I ran a hitachi boot up hardrive checker and got no errors. The hardrive is only a year old so I don't suspect any problems with it.

So i've been trying to run windows repair, but it doesn't find a bootable windows instalation. So I booted from cd again and tried recovery console and tried reinstalling the ntldr and ntdetection, but when I run bootcfg it comes back no boot found. Also all the letters are off for drives when I run off the CD so i'm worried if I reinstall windows will change drive letters and keep programs on other hardrives from operating properly. So I can't repair, but I really don't want to reinstall any ideas? I would prefer being able to repair if you have any solutions?
