Windows XP Reactivation

What do you have to do exactly? I'm building a new computer and I want to switch my XP Home copy to it. Do I have to deactivate it on my current system and the install it on the other one? Or what?

Just install it, it will ask you to activate as usual, try to activate online and if it does not let you give MS a call at the number it provides you.

There is nothing you need to do to the old machine except take XP off (as far as MS is concerned).

What spyman said. In addition, reactivation is only needed in certain circumstances - you change x number of components in less than x number of days, etc. Just give it a go and if it wants you to reactivate, just call the number provided... no big whoop.

Last I recall it was 5 hardware changes will require you to reactivate the license. (Harddrive size, NIC, sound card, modem, etc..)

I think it's a pain the rump myself, but that's my .02 worth

So if yuo had 2 nearly identical computer systems you could install the same copy on both and it shouldn't bother you about "activation" ..? For how expensive XP is i think home users should be able to put it on more than one puter

It will bother you about activation on both machines, and technically MS wont allow you to "activate" it on the 2nd. Technically...

Ok, I have another question with this. I want to sell the copy on EBay now? What do you reccomend I do? Call and get a new number? Or tell the person who buys it to get a new number?
