windows xp re-install cd

Hey any1 know if you can use the win xp re-instalation cd that came with a gateway pc and install it on a pc that i built myself? I dont want to spend a load of $$$ on a new 1.

You can't, you don't have a valid XP license (you need a retail license to install on your new machine).

If you have the gateway cd key just use that. You may not be able to download all the updates because you will be breaking the eula.

The Gateway CD Key stays with the system that it came preinstalled on and may not legally be transferred to a new system.

When you try to install, a text window will alert you to the fact that it will not allow the install in a non Gateway system. Dell does the same too.
