windows XP randomly "turning off" URGENT PLEASE HELP!!

I'm not sure why it's doing this, it's mainly when I'm running a lot of processes or putting a heavy load on the computer. I have SP2 and almost all the updates and still getting this problem. It's a fresh install of windows. Everything still functions when it "shuts down". Music still plays, etc. which makes me think it's not really windows locking up, but it seems like it is because it only shuts off the monitor when it locks up for a second, either the windows are unresponsive or just not even clickable or the mouse freezes

Any ideas?

Also I have 2 audio devices by my clock. One HD audio and one just regular audio. Is there a reason for this?

it's locking up for a couple seconds, then just shuts down. I don't know why it even locked up. I was sitting here just browsing this site and all of the sudden it just freezes and decides to turn off, but it's actually still on...

what do you mean by "shuts down." Is it as in the monitor went blank(black screen) but you can still hear the music playing? Or is it as in the monitor still displayed stuff, but the mouse and keyboard won't do anything?

the monitor turns black but music will still play. I can't see my KB or mouse, so I'm not sure if they are still functioning. The keyboard light does remain on though. It's doing this on a consistant basis and getting very old very fast

I think that there is something wrong with your monitor or video card. Go to Control Panel -> Power Options; make sure that "Turn off monitor", "Turn off Hard drive", and "System Standby" are set to "Never." Try a different monitor and/or graphic card if you can. Also, check to see if it's heat related. Start with a cold computer and monitor(both are off for at least one hour), and see when it takes for the monitor to go blank. If it's consistently going blank after the same period of time from cold startup(for example, 15 minutes), then the problem is most likely hardware related.

I thought it was a video card problem too, but this JUST started after my windows XP install. My computer kinda locks up before the monitor shuts down which is making me think it's somethnig else, but I can't pinpoint it. I have the latest drivers for all my hardware. I don't have access to another monitor besides my TV, and the video card is integrated.

Do you hear any noises coming out of the monitor? Is it going blank randomly or after a regular period of time?

no noises, as I said the computer just kinda locks up and the screen goes black with the monitor turning off. It's completely random, sometimes it could happen right when my computer is turned on, sometimes not for hours

Is the light on the monitor green or orange/yellow when the screen goes blank? I think that the monitor is bad.

orange yellow and no it's not the monitor. It's something with the computer locking up and I'm almost sure of this. All the windows either freeze or the mouse will lock up then it just shuts down which makes me positive it's not the monitor.

does ANYONE have any ideas? I swear that I'm about to punch a hole in this damn thing

The behaviour isnt' overly indicative of that (IMHO). To the OP, I'd start taking out extra cards seeing if there is a conflict you missed (you mentioned dual audio, right?). Also making sure you have the latest drivers for everything installed...

ok I now know 100% it's not a monitor problem. I've been running it on my TV via HDMI and it's still doing it. It's something in the computer that is locking up~!!!!

Could be a heat problem. Try this: load a lot of programs to where the CPU is at high usage (80-90% usage) and see if it causes the problem. If it does, go into the bios and check how much your CPU is running at.
