Windows XP Professional x64

Just got the May issue of Maximum PC. This may be old news since stuff makes it around on the internet faster than in print. But anyway. They say current Windows XP Pro users will be able to trade their WinXP Pro 32-bit license for a WinXP Pro x64 license for free. If you have Windows XP Home, you'll have to upgrade to Pro first in order to get the x64 license. They go on to say, "you can go online, authenticate it, and download x64 just like a service pack." Wow... does that mean you can upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit without a clean install?

They also have a little blurb on WinFS. They say Microsoft plans on "back-porting" it to Windows XP.

unforunatly they are wrong about the download and install it like a service pack for xp pro x64.it has to be installed from a clean harddrive, dont think an upgrade would work either.
I have read elsewhere they where planning on the tradeup licence for going from xp32 to xp64 but havent heard anything recently seeing as it is final and should be available soon (end of april they say)

WinFS is a new file system technology that they where planning on release with longhorn and yes it was planned to be backported to xp to allow user/developers to get used it. But it is delayed and probably wont be released till blackcomb (2009-2010 time frame). there are other parts that they will back port from longhong to xp, cant remember what bits off hand at the moment

Speaking of Longhorn... they should just scrap it. I don't think a single customer is looking forward to the "big brother" features of it.

Oh grow up, this thread wasn't even about Longhorn in the first place, and even if it is your thread it's an out of place(and trollish) comment.
