I just put together a system for a friend. Everything turns on fine but i can't install windows xp. I think something might be wrong with my windows xp cd. I've tried many cd keys and it just wont work. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about just installing windows 2000 just to get the system up and running.

How do i go about starting a fresh install of windows 2000? When i turn on my pc it automatically goes to the screen with the windows xp logo and then takes me to setup. I feel like i'm at a dead end.

THanks for the reply. Actually i've been using the Certificate of Authenticity. I think i know what the problem is. I've been trying to install windows xp professional but i've been using windows xp home edition. Ack!

My friend is coming over with the original recovery cd for the home edition. I'm hoping it'll read the home editoin cd instead of the professional edition. I hope i can get it to work. Also, i've been getting "not valid" when i put in a cd key.
