Last night my brother installed Norton Anti Virus on my machine which he downloaded from his work. Now i cannot login to my accounts anymore i have 5 accounts 3 admin two non admin accounts.
1) when i type in password i get message that "loading personal settings" and it just stays there...
2) I did get in once or twice but as soon as i clicked my mouse it went into wait state and did not do anything.

Please help.

I was able to get in without doing anything. My computer is now slow and i have a feeling that it has some virus. How can i detect if there is any virus in my computer without spending too much money on NAV etc...

Did you try hitting F8 at startup and choosing the "Last Good Known Configuration"?

I had that happen too. the root cause was that there was a previous AV software on the system (McAfee AV). The other AV has to be COMPLETELY uninstalled from you system before the NAV can be added. In my case it was easier to format and re-install Windows and the NAV. You may want to check the Symantec site and see if they have a way to remove the NAV and the other stuff and allow you to re-install NAV and still have a good running system.

Same thing happened to me once also.

It would come to the loading your personal settings thing and sit there. It would eventually load my settings though -- after about 12 minutes. I just did a reinstall.
