Windows XP Professional and Home, System Re-install

Hello,

I'm fairly incompetent with computers so please be as thorough as possible, thanks.

I have a bugged version of XP professional running on my computer and I lost the windows CD so I can't reboot the system. But, I do have a legit XP home version that I would like to reinstall instead.

I would like to know if this is possible and how I should go about doing it. For example, do I have to delete the old version?

Thanks, all help is appreciated.

I think you'd be better off trying to borrow an XP Pro CD from a friend/coworker. You could use it to reinstall PRO on your system. As long as you use your PRO key (hinged on you having a legit key) you can do that legally.

EDIT: Hmm, on second thought. I assume this is a store bought pc (i.e.- Dell, Compaq...) and not a home build. If it is a store bought, you will not want a regular XP Pro CD, you'll need a restore CD version from the pc manufacturer. You might be able to get one from them if you call them up.

The computer is actually home built (my roomate built it for me). I do not have a CD key for the XP Pro because it was generated. If possible I would prefer to install XP home. I don't know if this changes the situation.
Thanks

Aww... I not getting any lovin'

Maybe I shall restate my problem

Can I install XP Home when I have a bugged XP Pro installed? If not, do I have to delete XP pro before installing XP Home.

Thanks:heart:
