Windows XP problems

Just had this problem happen to me and I cant figure out whats going on. When I go to turn off my computer, I click turn off and windows goes through its shut down phase, only one problem, instead of shutting down, it restarts. I thought maybe I was clicking on restart, but I'm not. Whats going on?? Can someone please help me??

Has this always happened, or did it just start happening?

Generally speaking, Windows is invoking an ACPI BIOS feature to shut down system power. I have seen several machines which do not implement these power state changes correctly in the BIOS.

I had this happen on a laptop it turned out to be two things, the bios was out of date probably not in your case though and its settings, and a short in the power connector that would make the laptop turn back on every now and then

So what do you think I should do? I dont think my bios is out of date.

check your power management settings, I know that is a shot in the dark but who knows, I have put a motherboard in that had some of the oddest settings that didnt even seem default, but it is definitely motherboard related because that would be involved in the restart, I have had windows never restart or shut down, but not restart on a shut down command

Okay, but what should I look for?

to make sure it says power off in the right spots, actually you know what now that I think of it, my dads fiance had this problem and he either found the solution in the power management in the bios or in windows itself.

LOL, I know I am making things harder on you, but can you tell me what should say power off? I'm not to familuar with BIOS. Thanks

yeah let me go dig my manual out and email my father, I have never messed around with the power management settings other than setting it so that the hard drives dont turn on in windows

Thanks!!!

I had the same problem, I got this solution from another forum, maybe it will work for you:
Right click My Computer -->Properties---->Hardware tab---->Device Manager..... Double click/expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers, double click USB Root Hub---> Power Management tab, UNCHECK "Allow the computer to turn off to save power". Do this for all the USB root Hubs. Click OK/exit and restart.
